Guide to Celebrity Weight Loss Endorsements
Summer is looming. Time to shed those extra pounds! But in the overweight landscape of weight-loss programs and accompanying celebrity endorsements, just who do you trust to help you look awesome in that thong bikini? An actress once married to Eddie Van Halen? A former quarterback? A former Playmate of the Year? Whoopi Goldberg? It can be confusing — especially if you're hungry. To help sort the Jenny Craigs from the Jenny McCarthys, The Slug presents our Guide to Celebrity Weight Loss Endorsements. If we're missing someone, let us know at theslug@ap.org. Happy dieting!

Jenny Craig. Kirstie Alley, probably the most well-known celebrity weight-loss endorser, is currently handing the fat actress crown over to Valerie Bertinelli, Eddie Van Halen's ex and "One Day at Time" star, in a series of new ads. The transition seems to be working. Bertinelli has already appeared on "The View," "Rachael Ray," "Larry King Live" and the cover of People to talk about weight loss. All that publicity has got to be good exercise!

LA Weight Loss. "I lost 40 pounds in 23 weeks!" actress-comedian Whoopi Goldberg exclaims in print and TV ads for LA Weight Loss Centers. Wait. What? In case you're confused, Goldberg previously hocked Slim-Fast, but the shake maker dropped the "Jumpin' Jack Flash" star over sexually explicit comments she made at a John Kerry fundraiser in 2004. Maybe she's watching her mouth — both what goes in and what comes out — this time around?
Weight Watchers. While Sarah Ferguson continues to be the "ambassador" for Weight Watchers, former "Singled Out" co-host and Playmate Jenny McCarthy is now representing the company in a series of commercials aimed at new mommies. In one, she says after delivering her baby, she was "hoping that he was a 60-pound baby." Why? So he could get a deal shilling for Weight Watchers, too?
NutriSystem. Are you ready for some football? NutriSystem enlists the assistance of Don Shula to promote their NutriSystem Silver for Men program while Dan Marino markets the regular NutriSystem for Men program. Over the years, the former Miami Dolphins quarterback has given commercial pep talks for products ranging from Samsung electronics to Papa John's pizza. Hey, doesn't promoting that last one send a mixed message?
